was deep into the Years of Corruption at the time, and none of the short-lived kings of that era were well- liked by the people. Volupture, drawing on the treasury of his own kingdom, made life much more livable for serfs and peasants of the entire Realm, as well as helping out a great many nobles who were dangerously close to bankruptcy. A single man, however, can not support twenty kingdoms out of his own pocket. Volupture, early in 795, found himself nearly bankrupt, but, expecting help from the many lords he had assisted, he continued to give generously to everyone in need. History tells that he was surprised when no one came to his aid to finance his network of charity and bribery. It was many years before the peasantry stopped expecting his return.

The Second Emperor of the Realm was Diure LVIII, who held the title from Piquidon 870 until his death twenty-three years later. In a successful effort to increase his influence, he arranged an election among the kings and nobles of the realm, which, given the military force he held back at various borders, he was certain to win. The title of emperor did not entitle him to any control over neighboring kingdoms, but it did give him the right to send small companies of Rouche troops parading around the realm, building up his name, gaining him popularity, and inflating the size of his defensive forces in the minds of potential enemies.

Diure was not nearly as foolish with money as his predecessor, but his activities as emperor definately contributed to his massive accumulated debt. As emperor, he was expected to send a portion of his army to aid his neighbors in battle (except when he was attacking them himself), and to support the most destitute of nobles in their need.

Diure LXII held the title of Third Emperor of the Realm from 940 until his death in 953, but all imperial activity ceased in 945 when he realized the title was doing him no good at all, and was working against a substantial treasury that he was quite proud of.
